Qom Health: A New Platform for Market Development and Medical Equipment Exports

Published: September 6, 2026

This point was raised during an interview between Mopna and the CEO of the Employees' Cooperative of the Iran International Exhibitions Company:

According to the reporter of the Medical Engineering News Base (Mopna), Qom will host a specialized health event named "Qom Health" in December. This exhibition aims to bring together activists, manufacturers, specialized companies, and stakeholders in the health sector, providing a new opportunity to showcase capabilities, develop commercial cooperation, and strengthen the capacities of this sector.

Holding this event in Qom, as one of the country's important cultural, medical, and economic hubs, can pave the way for new interactions between various sectors of the health industry and economic activists. In this regard, we have interviewed Engineer Seyed Hossein Mir Zafarjuyan, Managing Director of the Cooperative Company of Employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran International Exhibition Company, about the goals of holding Qom Health, its executive programs, the capacities of this event, and expectations from the participation of organizations and activists in the health sector.

Below is the text of this interview:

1. Mr. Engineer, please explain what the main goal of holding the Qom Health Exhibition in December 2026 is and what gap this event is supposed to fill in the country's medical equipment and health services industry?

Mir Zafarjuyan: The fundamental goal of holding the Qom Health Exhibition is to create a specialized, focused, and fully practical platform for introducing, exchanging experiences, and developing the medical equipment, dental, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and health services industry; not merely at the level of Qom province, but with a national horizon and a forward-looking perspective.

This event is actually a response to several structural gaps that have been felt in this field for years. One of these gaps is the lack of a specialized and regular event in Qom province that can bring together producers, importers, medical centers, and institutional buyers in one place and reduce the dispersion of activities.

On the other hand, there is a gap between domestic production capacity and the actual market need; many knowledge-based companies and domestic producers have considerable technological capabilities that go unnoticed due to the lack of a suitable platform for introduction. Furthermore, the shortage of effective platforms for commercial and export interaction in the central regions of the country has essentially driven the players in this field towards capital-centric events.

In addition to these, the necessity of strengthening the health ecosystem of Qom province is also of particular importance; a province that holds a special position in terms of scientific, academic, and medical capacity, but this potential has not yet been fully transformed into a specialized event.

In a nutshell, the philosophy of Qom Health is to elevate the exhibition from a "product display place" to an "engine for creating business opportunities"; an approach that is consistently pursued in the design of all parts of the program, from booth layout to specialized meetings.

2. Considering the various exhibitions held in the health sector, what distinctive features and advantages will the Qom Health Exhibition offer to companies, industry activists, and visitors?

Mir Zafarjuyan: The competitive advantage of Qom Health can be summarized in three main axes. First is smart geographical and regional focus. Choosing Qom as the host was not accidental. Due to its scientific, medical, and religious status, this province attracts targeted audiences from the central and neighboring provinces; while the cost of participation for many companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, is significantly more justifiable compared to the large exhibitions in Tehran.

The second axis is the business-oriented approach rather than a show-oriented one. Special emphasis on B2B meetings, practical workshops, the presence of trade delegations, and direct coordination with purchasing centers, including hospitals and the University of Medical Sciences, ensures that the exhibition is not merely a showcase, but a real platform for transactions, negotiations, and cooperation.

The third axis is the purposeful size and specialization of the exhibition. With an area of about 4,000 square meters and a precise focus on five main product groups, participants can have a deeper and more effective interaction with their real audiences; without getting lost in the hustle and bustle and dispersion of more general exhibitions. The result of this combination is an environment that gives small and medium-sized companies a chance to be seen and allows professional buyers to make more focused decisions.

3. The Cooperative Company of Employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran International Exhibition Company, as the organizer, what plans does it have to attract capable domestic companies and also the presence of foreign representatives and activists in this event?

Mir Zafarjuyan: The plan for attracting participants is designed in two parallel layers. On the domestic layer, close cooperation with specialized associations and syndicates, including the Association of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and the Syndicate of Human Pharmaceuticals, is planned. Also, the formation of the exhibition's policy council with the presence of the main stakeholders in the health sector and supporting public and private institutions, including Qom University of Medical Sciences, the provincial Medical Council Organization, the provincial Organization of Industry, Mine and Trade, and the provincial Chamber of Commerce, is being pursued. In addition to these, targeted invitations to active companies through specialized databases and professional networks, coordination to provide special participatory incentives for knowledge-based companies, and the implementation of specialized advertising campaigns in health sector media and professional networks are also on the agenda.

On the foreign layer, invitations to trade delegations and representatives of foreign companies active in the health sector, designing attractive participation packages for foreign representatives residing in Iran, and coordinating with commercial attachés and joint chambers of commerce to introduce the event internationally are foreseen.

The ultimate goal is for Qom Health to have a strong domestic coverage from its very first edition and to build the foundations for international presence in a real and functional way, not merely symbolic.

4. One of the perennial concerns of the exhibition industry is turning the exhibition into a platform for contracts, exports, and business connections; What plans have you considered to ensure that Qom Health is not just an exhibition event and leads to real business opportunities?

Mir Zafarjuyan: This concern is completely central for us, and a set of specific programs has been designed to achieve it. Holding structured business meetings (B2B) with the presence of institutional buyers and procurement managers from medical centers is one of these programs. Also, prior coordination with Qom University of Medical Sciences and its affiliated hospitals for targeted visits and direct introduction of the real needs of these centers is planned.

In addition to these, inviting foreign trade delegations and providing a space for direct negotiation between parties, holding workshops and specialized panels focusing on exports, international standards, and emerging market opportunities, creating a database of participants and audiences so that follow-up and continuity of communication after the exhibition is possible, and designing dedicated spaces for private negotiations and contractual meetings are also on the agenda.

The key point is that we do not measure the success of the exhibition merely by the number of visitors; rather, our main evaluation criteria are the number of effective meetings held, memorandums of understanding signed, and contracts that actually lead to transactions.

5. The successful holding of a specialized exhibition requires the cooperation of various government bodies, professional associations, and private sector activists; What is the most important expectation you have from government agencies, associations, and industry activists for the better holding of Qom Health?

Mir Zafarjuyan: Our most important expectation from all parties is active and practical collaboration, not merely nominal and ceremonial support. From government agencies, we expect them to facilitate administrative processes and the issuance of necessary permits so that the side programs of the exhibition gain more richness, to coordinate and facilitate the effective presence of medical centers and institutional buyers, and to provide serious moral support in introducing the event through their specialized networks.

From associations and professional organizations, we expect them to introduce the exhibition to their members and encourage them to actively participate, to directly participate in designing the scientific content and specialized workshops, and to cooperate in attracting capable and reputable companies.

From private sector activists, we expect them to participate in the exhibition with a long-term and professional view, considering Qom Health as a strategic opportunity for market development and networking, not merely a line item for advertising expenses. Ultimately, genuine synergy among these three pillars is the determining factor for the sustainable success of the exhibition in the long run.

On the eve of Qom Health 2026, our most important demand from officials and activists in the medical equipment industry and the health sector is that all stakeholders consider this exhibition as their own and contribute to its formation and success. This perspective means that officials should enter the field with a supportive and facilitating approach, not merely a supervisory one, and that associations and professional organizations should also consider the exhibition as part of their industry's development plan, not an external event.

On the other hand, companies must participate in this event seriously and with professional planning, and not limit their presence merely to setting up a booth. Medical centers and buyers, with their active presence and precise articulation of their real needs, can contribute to the content richness and practicality of the event.

If this sense of collective ownership is formed among all players, Qom Health can become an effective, sustainable, and reference event in the country's health sector. As the organizer, we will use all our capacity to build this platform and invite all industry activists to join us on this path.
